Often problems occur because individuals simply do not make good choices. United Way of Hall County believes that accurate information and education can often enable individuals to make better decisions about their lives. Therefore, United Way invests in informational programs with the goal of preventing problems before they occur. The information may be directed toward children, teens, or the community as a whole and revolve around such issues as goal setting, communication skills, teen pregnancy, domestic violence and sexual assault. Such programs may also encompass health measures and safety practices that encourage individuals to modify personal habits to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Our community is stronger and healthier because such programs are available.

Rape Response presented a Date Rape curriculum to over 2800 middle school students and reached 2200 people in the community with prevention programs.

United Way donors are investing in parent education, counseling, support and resources. Over 300 family members are gaining skills in parenting or learning how to live with the challenges of raising a child with special needs through Challenged Child & Friends.

In 2005, 112 children and their family members in Family Relation’s Project Pathfinder have learned how to break the cycle of abuse.
