The Goal is Action

The success of United Way of Hall County is not simply measured in dollars. Yes, we must raise the dollars needed to maintain our focus on Children & Youth, Crisis Intervention, Self Sufficiency, and Health. The success of this year's campaign will also be measured by action.

The strategy will be to create an opportunity for you, your employees - and community members - to give, advocate, and volunteer. Our overall mission is to unite people, organizations, and resources to improve lives in Hall County - including your own!

Below are some local ideas:

• Host a Born Learning Employee Party to help parents, grandparents and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into fun learning opportunities.

• Organize a book drive with your co-workers and donate the books.

• Build a Born Learning Trail at your church, child-care center or other gathering place.

• Allow a high school student to shadow you at work and show them how you apply the things you learned in school.

• Work with an agency to organize an outing for a group of children to a local museum, exhibit or play.

• Mentor an at-risk youth through Center Point.

• Check Partner Agency websites to collect much needed supplies.

• Collect and donate newspaper to the Humane Society of Hall County.

• Bring a group of children to a bank for a tour and show them how to open a savings account.

• Tutor at Alliance for Literacy.

• Collect and donate new or gently used professional clothing to the Gateway Domestic Violence Thrift Shop, 1080 Dawsonville Hwy., Gainesville or the new location at 1642 Park Hill Drive, Gainesville. For more information, email gatewaythriftstore@yahoo.com.

• Start a walking group that meets regularly at a set time and location.

• Sign up for a 5K to benefit a cause. If you’re not a runner, offer to help with registration or refreshments.

• Coach a youth sports team.
