In response to a group of enthusiastic volunteers from Lumpkin
County, the board of United Way of Hall County established
the Lumpkin County division in the summer of 2003. The staff
and volunteers provided expertise and experience to support
their efforts in organization, fundraising and distribution
of those funds to improve the lives of residents in their
community.
The first campaign raised more than $54,000 and allocations
were made to the following agencies providing vital health
and human services in Lumpkin County:
Rape Response, Inc.
The mission of Rape Response is to serve as a system of
support, advocacy, and education, providing services to
the community and to survivors of sexual assault while safeguarding
the dignity of each person served. Approximately 30% of
their clients are from Lumpkin County.
NOA’s Ark, Inc.
NOA provides safe haven and comprehensive support services
for victims of family violence. Through educational programs,
NOA works to foster attitudes in the community that violence
is not acceptable. NOA provided shelter for 56 adults and
72 children in 2002. Of those served approximately 45% receiving
emergency services were from Lumpkin County and 56%-65%
receiving comprehensive support services were Lumpkin County
residents.
Community Helping Place
The Community Helping Place was established in 1999 with
the mission to establish and manage ministries that meet
the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the diverse
people of Lumpkin County. This is accomplished through the
volunteer efforts of those who seek to offer charitable
humanitarian service as motivated by faith. Services include
the Food Pantry, Thrift Store, Emergency Assistance, the
Baby Pantry, the Fixing Place and White Christmas. Approximately
900 unduplicated people were served last year plus another
1,100 were assisted with White Christmas.
Rainbow Children’s Home, Inc.
The mission of Rainbow Children’s Home is to provide
emergency shelter and services for the children who have
been removed form their homes for reasons of abuse, neglect
and/or abandonment. In 2002, Rainbow Children’s Home
sheltered 59 children for 2119 bed nights. Of the children
served, 37% were from Lumpkin County with Lumpkin County
always receiving top priority.

Enotah CASA, Inc.
Enotah CASA
is a non-profit agency with the mission to provide community
volunteers who are screened, trained and supervised to advocate
for the best interest of abused and/or neglected children
involved in deprivation proceedings. Enotah CASA serves
Lumpkin, White, Towns and Union counties with approximately
37% of the children from Lumpkin County.
Family Relations Program, Inc.
The agencies mission is to break the cycle of child sexual
abuse and prevent the victimization of children. Of the
624 victims provided Victim Services in 2002, 34 were from
Lumpkin County. Project Pathfinder works with sexualized
and offending children ages 5-11 and adolescents ages 12-17.
In 2002, 12 children of the 291 served were from Lumpkin
County. Family
Relations also offers Women’s Services to adult
female survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Four of the
26 served in 2002 were from Lumpkin County.
Northeast Georgia Chapter American Red Cross
The American
Red Cross is a humanitarian organization governed by
volunteers who provide relief to victims of disasters and
help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
A total of 1,258 unduplicated clients were served in Lumpkin
County last year. Of those served, 36 were provided emergency,
disaster and crisis intervention, 331 participated in the
health and safety program and 542 in the blood program.
Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia, Inc.
The Girl Scouts strive to serve all girls ages
5-17 within the council’s jurisdiction through an
informal educational program to help girls develop self
potential, become actively involved in their community,
relate to others and become self reliant. The Girl Scouts
serves 165 girls from Lumpkin County and has 65 adult volunteers
from the county.

Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition
The mission of the Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition is
to form a collaborative union between business, education,
and government resulting in improved literacy levels of
children, families, workers in our community and to ultimately
achieve the designation as a Georgia Certified Literate
Community. The Coalition projects serving 200-225 individuals
next year through the Adult Learning Center.
Habitat for Humanity of Lumpkin County
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people
everywhere from all walks of life to develop communities
with God’s people in need by building and renovating
houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities
in which God’s people can live and grow into all that
God intended.
H.E.A.R.T.
The Hopeful Equestrians Academy of Riding Therapy provides
hippo therapy to children and adults with emotional, physical,
and mental disabilities. Of the 60 clients served last year,
25 were from Lumpkin County.
Young at Heart
The agency’s mission is to provide programs for clients
suffering from Alzheimer’s that allows respite for
their primary caregivers. They are presently working with
14 Lumpkin County families.
Evergreen Terrace, Inc.
Evergreen Terrace provides independent and assisted living
services in a tranquil, supportive, and home like environment
for the indigent elderly/ physically and emotionally handicapped
adults. Their goal is to promote a comprehensive continuum
of health care as residents are assisted in returning to
a healthy and productive life style while retaining their
respect and dignity. Last year 22 f the 42 clients served
were from Lumpkin County.
Lumpkin County 4-H
The mission of the Lumpkin County 4-H is to assist youth to acquire knowledge, develop life skills and form attitudes that will enable them to become self directing, productive and contributing citizens. Target population is boys and girls, ages 9 through 19.
Boy Scouts of America – Northeast Georgia Council
The mission of the Boy Scouts is to instill values that will help our youth make ethical decisions over their lifetime and to teach citizenship, leadership, and to promote mental and physical fitness. Serve boys ages 6-20 and girls ages 14-20. Adult volunteers are at least 21 years old and may be male or female. This council serves 26 counties in northeast Georgia, including all of Lumpkin County.
Challenged Child & Friends
The mission of Challenged Child & Friends is to serve children six weeks to six years with state-of-the-art
therapeutic, educational, nursing and family counseling services in a preschool environment. Our non-profit
center enriches the lives of children and their families by providing them with skills to participate
in their home, school and community. The target population is infants, toddlers and preschoolers with
developmental delays, disabilities or at-risk characteristics, their families and typical peers ages
six weeks to six years. The primary service is area is Hall and surrounding counties of White, Forsyth,
Jackson, Habersham, Lumpkin, Dawson, Banks, Gwinnett, and Barrow. www.challengedchild.org
Dahlonega Care Center
Dahlonega Care Center is a ministry dedicated to educate, inform and assist women and teenagers faced with a possible pregnancy, to help with crisis situations. The target population is lower income women, teenagers who are pregnant or who have infants or young children – primarily from Lumpkin and Dawson counties.
Lumpkin County Family Connection
The purpose of Lumpkin County Family Connection is for the individual representatives in the group to collectively work together to make the well-being of children and their families a community priority. Our primary goal is that all children in Lumpkin County will complete school with the skills to enter the work force or continue their education and become productive citizens in their communities. To accomplish this goal, we work with a variety of agencies and organizations as part of a collaborative effort to provide assets for children and their families and to remove barriers that keep them from succeeding. Networking and communicating with all service providers is paramount to this process. The target population is families with children from birth to 18 years of age.
